Small Business Solutions and Services from the UPS Store to help you manage, market, and grow your business.

Research concluded with a need for an improved UPS app for the large number of small business customers who like to do their business on something more portable than a computer. There were many factors to consider with regard to task flows, with close attention on the differences between domestic and international shipping, the latter of which requires more steps.

Designs were first completed for the mobile app followed by the tablet app. In the following wireframes we see both mobile and it's tablet translation to its right. The domestic shipping flow was a 6 step process: Sent From, Ship To, Package Info, Shipping Info, Pickup Info, and Billing.

PROBLEMS TO SOLVE

  • Too many reported bugs and interaction issues by small business owners who needed a mobile and tablet app for easier creation and tracking of their many shipments.

IMPROVEMENTS MADE

  • Updated the UPS mobile and tablet apps with improved user flows, visual design, navigation.
  • One app for domestic (US) and international customers, the latter of which incorporates various currencies, time/ date formatting, and required international shipping forms and tarrifs.
  • App store reviews after launch confirmed these updates were beneficial:
    • "I almost didn't download this app after reading the previous reviews. However the app is working for me. I had no trouble logging in, it is tracking my packages without problems, and I have a back arrow that allows me to track several packages without logging out." -mlz808
    • "I opened it, logged in, and it immediately showed me my deliveries for yesterday, today, and those scheduled for tomorrow. I tapped on one of the deliveries for tomorrow and everything I needed was in front of me." - C2112
    • "Wow! Neat feature!! I have a delivery that is going to be delivered via UPS, so I copied the tracking number from my email and opened the UPS app, and a little pop-up asked me if I wanted to track the number I just copied! What a neat feature!! Love, love, love it!" -Bigmove
